The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Obuasi Campus has held a one-day seminar aimed at improving research communication and scientific writing among faculty and students.
The virtual event, titled “Strengthening Research Practice through Policy, Communication, and Scientific Writing,” was organised by the Office of the Research Policy Advocate.
It brought together lecturers, students and invited experts to discuss how effective communication can increase the reach and impact of academic research.
Dr. David Azanu, Research Policy Advocate and convener of the seminar, said the programme was part of a broader effort to build a more engaged and impactful research culture at KNUST Obuasi.
Dr. Albert Banunle, a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science, led the second session on scientific communication. He stressed the importance of clarity, transparency and audience awareness in research writing.
“Scientific communication is not just about publishing. It is about purpose,” Dr. Banunle, said.

Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah, Assistant Registrar and Head of the Digital Communications Section at the University of Relations Office, led the session on research communication for impact..
He urged researchers to make their work accessible to audiences beyond academia, including policymakers, journalists and the public.
“Researchers have a duty to simplify their findings without compromising scientific integrity,” Mr. Debrah said. “Present your work truthfully and clearly.”
Mr. Debrah also highlighted the role of institutional platforms such as flyers and social media in promoting research.
